At least it has a recurring theme Journey to the West and is not a bad type combination by itself. What actually makes me disgruntled is the fact that Samurott and Serperior are just pure types, when they had such good type combination ideas for the starters last gen.
I could forgive it if they had better uses, like better stat distributions and more diverse movepools, but they don't. I loved Oshawott and Dewott, but then when it came to Samurott I was really disappointed. Poliwrath is the only other one, so it's a pretty original type combination. Snivy and it's evo line definitely have cool designs, it's just that they lack in everything else. It's usage is almost on par with Meganium, except Meganium might be a bit better. It's only redeemable trait is an ability that we can't even legally have yet that it can only take advantage of with one move.
Tepig, on the other hand, has awesome designs, good enough stats and a great movepool. I just wish more Sp. He otherwise has decent bulk and a solid Attack stat. But, I digress, aside from Tepig's line, these starters are definitely kind of disappointing. There's something wrong if the starters are so bad that quite a few people consider not even using their starter at all this gen.

This allows it to use moves such as "Leaf Storm" that has a devastating base damage and gaining two stages of Special Attack in the process normally it would lower without "Contrary". As such, while it has fair competition in its debut Generation, it leads the pack in future installments once its Hidden Ability was added.
By the time Oshawott becomes Samurott, its stat line is balanced with no clear stat being better than the rest. This plays into just how versatile Samurott can be. In another world Snivy would be the winner if "Contrary" was easily obtainable.
While Oshawott has its merits, its balanced stat line can sometimes play against it and prevent it from doing real damage before it gets taken care of. Snivy has solid Speed but doesn't have many moves that can truly utilize it considering its subpar Attack stats. Tepig is so good when it becomes Emboar. While it's low Speed stat can be a downside, its raw power more than makes up for it. Should I choose tepig or Oshawott? Which Pokemon should I choose as my starter?

It looks really cool on all of the evolutions and I like grass types… :D. Your email address will not be published. Now Trending: Unboxing: Shadowrun Sixt Review: Yakuza Kiwami Review: Yakuza 6: The So Evansville Esports April Type The types for each starters should surprise no one.
