The filler doesn't take away from the show or go on for seasons at a time like other anime. Most of it will take place in the present-day or have the character find a new demon to take on. It doesn't feel out of place at all and only adds to the story. Since an anime can pack in more information in an episode, then the manga can in a chapter, many are expanded upon. This made some chapters go on for multiple episodes and fleshed out the villains even more.
Most fans enjoyed seeing more detail put into there favorite moments. This also helps to create some pretty awesome fights.
Other than filler and expanding chapters, the anime doesn't always follow the manga. There are a few changes, such as Ayame's backstory about meeting Koga, but nothing that harshly reroutes the story. In addition, some characters are also given more screen time or dialogue than in the manga. One of the things you will notice, as mentioned in the filler section, is that you see more of the present.
Kagome doesn't travel back and forth that much, in the manga or the anime. It does occur a bit more often in the show, and you get to see Inuyasha have to interact with the modern world. This adds a ton of humor to the show and is enjoyable to watch. The show isn't just centered around romance or looking for the jewel; there are also a ton of fight scenes.
Almost all of the fights in the show are packed with action and well done. The second movie takes place after Episode Then, the third movie should be watched after Episode , and the final movie is set after the anime is over but before The Final Act, which is the title of the final episodes of the InuYasha anime.
Even though you can watch the movies in a particular order, they aren't canon. In fact, the closest the movies get to canon is in Swords of an Honorable Ruler. In the film, we get to see some backstory about InuYasha's dad, but that's pretty much it. While the rest of the movies aren't canon, they're all good and feature some compelling fight scenes. In Mao , you'll definitely see some similarities to InuYasha in the beginning, but it stands on its own as a great read.
They both have to do with the main characters finding themselves in a completely different era of time. Mao follows a schoolgirl from named Nanoka. After entering a portal to the past, she is saved from a demon by a guy with an impressive sword who turns out to be the titular character, Mao.
Sounds a lot like InuYasha, doesn't it? The main character Inu Yasha, as well as a few others, are based on the Inugami. In contrast to the western demon, however, they are by no means exclusively evil. The main story ostensibly tells of the fight between the main characters and a half-demon named Naraku.
The anime series started airing in Japan on October 16, It was animated by Sunrise and the original run consisted of episodes which were divided into six seasons; it was concluded on September 13, Five years later, Inuyasha: The Final Act , which concluded the series, aired from October 3, , to March 29, It was once again animated by Sunrise and it had 26 episodes, which concluded the main anime story.
Here is an overview of the material:. Alongside the anime series, InuYasha also has four feature length anime movies that were released between and As it is usually the case with anime movies, they follow up on the main series and are part of the same narrative continuity, but present separate, individual adventures that are not directly tied to the main anime narrative.
In that aspect, they are somewhere between being canon and being non-canon. The movies are as follows:. This enables him to disrupt the flow of time. So she is separated from Inuyasha. But due to their strong connection to each other, Kagome manages to talk to Inu Yasha and, with the help of the village priestess Kaede, return to the Middle Ages. Then Inuyasha and Kagome go in search of the remaining fragments of the jewel of the four souls. Miroku returns to his master and Sango goes looking for her brother Kohaku.
When Kagome briefly returns to the present, she learns about the legend of Princess Kaguya at school. This was a heavenly maiden from the moon who was found by a bamboo cutter in the forest.
Kaguya set unsolvable tasks for her admirers before returning to the moon. In the time after Naraku was defeated, the moon began to appear as a full moon every night. When Kagome comes back from the present and goes on a search for the jewel shards with Inuyasha and Shippo, they meet Kagura and Kanna. Kagome is able to prevent Inuyasha from taking greater harm, but Kaguya realizes her priestly powers and her belonging to another time.
He joins the group, also because he fell in love with Kagome. Her Hagoromo was left to a family that would destroy it should Kaguya be freed. With all the items that Kagura and Kanna have stolen, they free Kaguya from her mirror. She manages to defeat Inu Yasha, take her Hagoromo and kidnap Kagome. Inu Yasha, Miroku, Kohaku and Sango then move to Kaguyas Castle to free Kagome and prevent Kaguya from stopping time by means of a ceremony in order to envelop the world in eternal night.
The friends manage to free Kagome and Inu Yasha can get the part of his cloak back and thus prevent the ceremony. Only a kiss from Kagome brings him back to his senses. It turns out that Kaguya is a demon who devoured the true moon princess.
During the fight between Inuyasha and her, Naraku appears from the body of Kohaku, who has only faked his death. He wants to devour the demon Kaguya to become stronger, but could not defeat her himself. However, he escapes with Kanna, Kagura and Kohaku. In the end it is possible to finally kill Kaguya together and her Hagoromo is sacrificed to the Fujiyama. It remains then for Myouga, Toutousai and Saya to fulfill the wish of the dog leader in relation to the fate to be given to their swords.
Tessaiga was buried with the master; it was inherited from Inuyasha, who would receive it when she was old enough to manage it. Tenseiga was inherited by the eldest son, Sesshomaru. However, the most dangerous of swords, Soounga, had no right destination.
The Soounga sword reappears only today, in the Higurashi temple. Sensing the presence of Inuyasha, Soounga awakens from his sleep, possesses Inuyasha and returns to the feudal era. There, she resurrects Takemaru and possesses him as she had done with Inuyasha. The purpose of the sword and Takemaru is to take revenge on the leader of the dogs; as he is already dead, they want to kill his two children. In order to defeat Soounga, Inuyasha and Sesshomaru were forced to fight together, as only the combined power of Tessaiga and Tenseiga was able to defeat her.
On their search for the fragments of the jewel of the four souls, Inu Yasha and his friends Kagome, Sango, Kirara, Miroku and Shippo meet a little girl.
